                                Upright Rows 3 x 10
Notes:
Upper body weight lifting is certainly not my forte, this requires a lot of patience on my part as I am weak in this area, and honestly do not enjoy working on it much at all. Yet, deep down the fire to be the best runner I can be burns much stronger than the disdain for lifting, and so I lift. Just 3 more days until I get to begin the running training for this program!
In the spirit of the Olympics being just around the corner I’d like to touch on an athlete that I will be praying for and cheering on with much passion as I have for years, Ryan Hall. He is a two time Olympic Marathoner for the USA amongst his many other amazing accomplishments. Above all he is a man after God’s own heart. Just as Paul role models to us what in the New Testament what it looks like to be a follower of Christ, so does Ryan model what a Christian athlete should strive for. Not once does he lead you to be as he is, but his actions lead you directly to the Lord Himself. Everything about Ryan Hall and his training, racing, words, and life scream out the love of Christ. I hope you have known or will get to know some of Ryan’s story.
Click here for a link to a documentary that is being developed about Ryan’s journey to the London 2012 Olympic Marathon. It’s entitle The 41st Day, playing off of event we all know about David and Goliath. Encouraged and motivated by the trailers and reading about this documentary and Ryan’s journey I have dug into 1 Samuel, and here is a verse that jumps right out from the story of David and Goliath which applies directly to the focus and the promise in my training, it takes place as David and Goliath stand face to face, Goliath is mocking the young boy and threatens to kill him and “feed his body to the birds” here is David’s powerful reply which is still applicable today:

“Then David said to the Philistine (Goliath), ‘You come to me with a sword, a spear, and a javelin, but I come to you in the name of the LORD of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have taunted. This day the LORD will deliver you up into my hands, and I will strike you down and remove your head from you. And I will give the bead bodies of the army of the Philistines this day to the birds of the sky and the wild beasts of the earth, that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel, and that all this assembly may know that the LORD does not deliver by sword or by spear; for the battle is the LORD’s and He will give you into our hands.’”   -1 Samuel 17:45-47

Important to note in previous passages David had sought out God in prayer and was not jumping to conclusions about God’s destiny. He first was certain and THEN acted in faith whole heartedly! I am certainly not portraying this as going into a race as a battle in which God will deliver your competitors into your hands; I am implying this to the lies of the devil. The devil works through the lies and sometimes even the promises of this world. I often am caught in doubt and thinking I am not good enough, man enough, do not have enough faith to carry out in God’s presence; let alone be able to conquer an obstacle for His glory. But these are lies! These are the things the God, through faith, delivers to us for execution. He is stronger than the lies and the doubt, follow whole heartedly and let God deliver the “Goliaths” of your life and training into your hands for HIS glory!
Photo is of Ryan Hall winning the 2007 Olympic Trials Marathon in NYC. This is a beautiful image of a man experiencing God at another level, and certainly not afraid to show it!
